Which bore do you need for a milkshake?

A thick shake is the hardest test a straw gets. Hard-scoop bases and malt powders will stall a narrow bore, and the drink goes back to the counter.

• 8mm — fine for standard shakes and malts made with soft-serve.
• 9mm — the safe choice for thick shakes and hard-scoop bases.
• 10mm — jumbo bore, for very thick shakes where a 9mm still stalls.

If you top shakes with fruit pieces or crumb, go a size up from what the base alone would need.

Spoon straws for thicker serves

For floats, sundae-style shakes and anything a customer will want to scoop, a spoon straw does both jobs and saves handing out cutlery with every serve.

Paper or plastic?

Paper straws are unrestricted and plastic-free, and ours are 3 or 4 ply so they hold up through a thick drink rather than collapsing part-way. Plastic straws go to exempt businesses only, with an eligibility declaration at checkout.
