Which bore do you need for a smoothie?

Bore is the internal diameter, and with smoothies it is the whole decision. Too narrow and the straw blocks on fruit pulp, and the customer gives up on the drink.

• 8mm — thinner, well-blended smoothies with no seeds or skins.
• 9mm — the standard smoothie bore. Passes fruit pulp, and fits the straw slot on 80mm and 90mm dome lids.
• 10mm — frozen fruit, thick yoghurt bases, anything a 9mm stalls on.
• 12mm — wider than a smoothie needs, but the right call if the same cup might also carry tapioca pearls.

If you serve through a domed lid, check the slot before you buy. Most 80mm and 90mm domes take a 9mm straw comfortably and will not take a 12mm.

Paper or plastic?

Paper straws are plastic-free and unrestricted, so anyone can buy them. Plastic straws are supplied to exempt businesses and organisations only under the UK single-use plastic rules, and you will be asked to confirm eligibility before checkout.
